Dark Souls by Brenda L. Harper
Six years after the angel disease and a few months after Jimmy’s death, Dylan finds herself home alone the majority of the time as Wyatt throws himself into his role as a council member with the United Alliance of the Americas. Distance had been growing between them since their soul mate connection broke, but Dylan is shocked when she realizes that Wyatt is working with the council to ban the angels—she and Stiles—and the gargoyles from populated areas. The humans are afraid of a repeat of the war that nearly destroyed humanity and they feel the need to prove they can stand on their own two feet. But banning Dylan would mean destroying her family once and for all.

As the council debates Dylan’s future, she is drawn into a new fight she never saw coming. Before her birth, Nephilim souls were unblessed. When a Nephilim died, its soul was trapped on Earth, locked up in pain and anger. Dylan’s birth changed this as Nephilim were blessed from that moment on. However, there were thousands of Nephilim who died before Dylan, and their souls are still trapped. For reasons no one understands, they have grown in power and have begun possessing humans, forcing them to commit deeply vicious and violent acts. Dylan has no idea how to stop the dark souls, or demons, without hurting the humans they possess.

As Dylan battles in her war with the demons and struggles to keep her weak link to her family intact, she learns more about her nature, her purpose on Earth, and her connection to Stiles. And that last, her connection to Stiles, is the one thing that both keeps her grounded and shakes up her reality. How can Dylan let go of the love of her life and embrace a new soul mate without losing everything that makes her human? But, again, Dylan never really was human…
