This life is all they have ever known, but they decide to travel thousands of miles to an Amish community in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. They have heard that crops do well, the community has more modern amenities, and life is easier, although they still follow the strict Ordnung that each family cherishes. After the shunning, they sell almost everything they have and board a bus.

Jenny knows that her brother Jordan is destined for great things in their community, but when someone else—the son of a shunned deacon—is chosen for the position, she becomes willing to go to great lengths to oust the man. Jordan is calm, level-headed, even sweet, but that has to change so that he can become ready to take his place as head of the all-male group known as the Amish Mafia to their local community. His sister is more than ready to help him make this change, even if it means changing herself in the process.

As Jenny and her family make the choice to host Ashon, Lucy and their families when they arrive, more changes have to be made to accommodate the newcomers.
