The Twelve Thieves of Christmas by Rosie Darling
On the snowy streets of Victorian London, twelve orphans steal to survive. But they soon find that Christmas isn't always filled with festive cheer.

Jack and Mary are orphaned and alone on the streets of London. When Maggie rescues them from a certain road to the hangman and takes them into her care, they see her as the mother they lost too early.

The siblings are two of a group of twelve children, sheltered by Maggie, albeit in the tenement slums of Whitechapel. But slowly, what has become family is whittled away until Mary knows she must make the hardest decision yet to keep herself and Jack alive and out of harm's way.

Will Christmas ever be a day of joy and celebration rather than the harbinger of despair and ill fortune?
