Left in the freezing cold on the doorstep of a local bakery, the newborn gets picked up by a woman who makes her living by 'entertaining' gentleman and decides to use Emmy as a begging prop.
Life is harsh when you grow up as a prostitute's daughter, and friends are few. It seems there are simply no breaks for the likes of them, and that Emmy is destined to many years of hardship.
That is, until a little miracle happens and a gentleman falls head over heels for her mum.
