Seven years ago my life ended.
Not literally, of course. I’m still here, but I was shattered so completely, it certainly feels like a large part of me died that day.
Helplessly, I had to watch him get dragged away. Torn unceremoniously from my life and not a single person cared. Hell, they didn’t even know about it.
I never learned his fate so the wound never healed. It just festered and oozed as I learned to float through life. Going through the motions of the mundane day-to-day without any thought or connection.
Here there’s no pleasure, but there isn’t any pain either.
Just as I started to accept this colorless, emotionless existence he strolls right back into my life just as suddenly as he disappeared all those years ago.
Heath. Dark, disturbed, and my overprotective brother’s best friend. The definition of forbidden fruit. Not that it stopped us before and from the way he looks at me now, I don’t think it will stop him this time either.
My instinct is to just leap without looking. I want to bury myself in him and the way he makes me feel, but so much has happened since we were kids. I don’t even know where he’s been or what’s happened to him. What is clear is that he’s a broken shell; a shadow of who he used to be.
When we were younger, my brother was our only obstacle, but now, he may be the easiest to conquer.
