Grace on the Mountain by Emily Josephine
What if your emotionally abusive ex-husband, whom you haven't seen in years and whom you hoped never to see again, became the hero for the family God was leading you to help?

Fourteen-year-old Ryan Pierce is determined to prove his independence to the world – or, at least to his mother. When Leslie Pierce suspects her son has begun sneaking off in the middle of the night to do drugs in the small southeast Oklahoma town where they live, she is at a loss. Confronting her son only makes things worse, but saying and doing nothing does nothing to quell his bad behavior.

When Liz Richardson, who lives ten minutes away up on a mountain, feels God drawing her to help Leslie, the thirty-nine-year-old freelance writer is reluctant to obey. But when she does, she realizes that this family is as deserving as grace as she is.

Her belief about who is worthy of God's free gift falls short, however. When she finds out that her emotionally abusive ex-husband is looking to purchase the property next to hers, her prayers and attitude are anything but graceful.

At first, Peter Tanner is willing to give up his desire for the property if he could only get Liz's forgiveness. A changed man, he now knows what a monster he was during their short marriage. But the more he encounters Liz, the more he realizes that he still loves her. And he begins to hope for a second chance with her.

For her part, Liz is wondering if she'll have to move to avoid seeing Peter on a regular basis. But when Ryan gets in over his head with his new "friends" and Peter ends up rescuing him, she begins to wonder whether her bitter feelings toward her ex-husband are justified for this man who seems to exude compassion.

She begins to long for what they had at the beginning of their marriage.

Leslie is fighting bitterness of her own, a bitterness that ultimately puts her family's well-being in peril. But as she opens her eyes and her heart to those around her who are willing to help her despite her imperfection, grace has a fighting chance to seep into her soul and change her life forever.
