Spiral by R.J. Scott, V.L. Locey
Where the worlds of academia and sports collide, a doctor of math and a dyslexic hockey star attempt to solve the equation for love

In the middle of game-changing research on the never-ending Fibonacci spiral, Dr. Jameson ‘Jamie’ Hennessy hits the reset button on his life. Post-breakup, he heads to the other side of the country to crash with his best friend, doubling as a part-time nanny and working on his research every spare moment. When he finds out a hated rival, the same ex he’s just left, is working on Jamie’s ideas, he has to up his game, and looks to the violent game of hockey for inspiration. Unfortunately, to do that, he has to at least watch a game, and that’s when he sees Craig, winger, former figure skater, and the sexiest man he’s ever laid eyes on. Initially, Jamie’s all about the math, wanting Craig’s help to crack the code on predicting sports moves with the Fibonacci sequence. At first their worlds collide—Jamie buttoned up and focused, Craig prickly and defensive–but as they team up, something unexpected happens. Amidst late-night study sessions and ice rink chill-outs, Jamie finds that maybe, just like in math, there’s a formula for love, and Craig might just be the answer he wasn’t even looking for.

Craig Beaulieu has made it to the pros through pure grit and determination. As a child, his dyslexia made his hours spent in the classroom difficult. Thankfully, he had the ice to retreat to when things at school got too intense. His skill on skates led him first into figure skating as a pairs partner to his twin sister and then to ice hockey, where he worked twice as hard as the other guys to make sense of all those X’s and O’s. With the help of an understanding coach in high school, Craig was able to make a collegiate hockey team where he was picked up by the Storm for his speed, grace, and ability to light the lamp. Life is rolling along smoothly, if not a little solitary, when he meets Jamie at a team party. He’s instantly attracted to the handsome Brit and wholly unprepared to be asked to take part in some sort of mathematical study about sports movement. Drawn to Jamie but leery of looking out-of-place with the brightest minds in academia, he agrees to take part in the study just to gawk at the handsome professor. Things don’t start well at all, but over time Craig falls hard and fast despite all his fancy moves both on and off the ice.
